Fella is a handsome hound mix who will turn 4 years old in December. We adopted him in February 2022, and making the decision to find him a new home is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.
Fella is a sweetheart with a big personality. He's very intelligent, food-motivated and a fast learner who responds well to positive reinforcement and calm, confident leadership. He loves being outdoors, sunbathing, exploring and following his nose. His favorite game is "find it," where treats are hidden for him to sniff out. He has strong natural hunting instincts and thrives when given opportunities for enrichment, exercise and scent work.
He has completed beginner and intermediate training through PetSmart, as well as an 8-week training program through Obedient K9 Academy. He has also been working with a veterinary behaviorist since May 2023. Fella is up to date on all vaccinations.
Fella does best in environments where he has space to roam and be active. He can be reactive around other dogs and needs time, patience and safe distance to become comfortable. He would benefit from an experienced adopter who understands dog behavior and is committed to continuing his training and helping him succeed.
This decision comes after much consideration. I live with multiple sclerosis (MS), and the financial demands of managing both my health and Fella's ongoing care have become increasingly difficult. In addition, despite our best efforts, having a dog has had a significant impact on my husband's wellbeing and our family life.
Fella's ideal home would offer a calmer pace of life than our busy city neighborhood. He can become overstimulated by frequent activity and tends to thrive in environments with fewer distractions and more space to decompress. A home with a fenced yard or access to outdoor areas where he can explore, sniff and relax would be especially beneficial.
I love Fella deeply and am committed to finding the right home, not just the next home. My hope is he can match with a family or individual who will give him the structure, activity, patience and love he deserves. In return, they'll gain a loyal, goofy, affectionate companion with a huge heart and so much potential.
